The challenge

As part of a major refurbishment of Reading station Network Rail needed to upgrade its pay on foot solutions to the latest market offering. Its decision to be the first to adopt Ingenico’s iSelf-Service powered by our payment gateway has given APCOA Parking a future-proofed solution that offers both security and speed.

By integrating Our EMV SDKs solution with Ingenico’s new EMV Chip and PIN product iSelf-Service the duo have delivered a payment solution that has improved operating times and security for cardholders whilst also introducing the ability to pay via EMV Chip and PIN for customers at Reading train station car park.

How it works

Our EMV SDKs takes away the pain and complexities of EMV Chip and PIN processing for equipment manufacturers and can be integrated with a variety of attended and unattended PIN pads, connecting seamlessly with our EMV-ready payment gateway to provide a fully pre-certified payment solution. The Ingenico iSelf-Service and ChipDNA offering was certified by Global Payments earlier this year and has been integrated into five pay on foot terminals provided by SkiData at Reading car park. The Ingenico iSelf-Service carries the latest certifications for this type of device and replaces older alternatives that can no longer be deployed since certifications have expired or are no longer available. The 1,649 space car park is now controlled by ANPR barriers that allow customers to enter and exit the car park automatically.

The choice to be the first to market with the Ingenico and ChipDNA offering, illustrates APCOA’s insistence on delivering secure, future proofed solutions.

The results

The new system is the first time EMV Chip and PIN payments have been enabled at Reading and replaces an old chipcoin based solution for parking and mag stripe validation for payment. Such a solution was not only antiquated but often proved frustrating for the customer since the chipcoins were easy to lose and a fine had to be paid if this happened. With the new ANPR enabled solution the system recognizes both when a customer comes into the car park and when they leave, meaning it doesn’t matter if a customer loses their parking ticket. The addition of ANPR barriers is estimated to have cut 20 seconds off customers parking times whilst the Creditcall powered payment solution means customers’ payments are as secure as possible.

By integrating the ChipDNA and the Ingenico iSelf-Service in its pay on foot machines, Network Rail and APCOA have implemented the most future-proofed solution currently available on the market. Their customers can not only be assured of a faster experience in the car park but be rest assured to be using the most secure solutions.
