NMI employees recently participated in the first NMI Cares initiative, a global, company-wide commitment of paying it forward and volunteering to help those in need. Over the last few weeks, 104 NMI volunteers participated in 14 events across our 5 main office hubs and locations close to our remote employees, amounting to more than 60 hours of volunteering. Those who participated made a tangible impact on their communities.

Employees close to our Schaumburg, IL headquarters took time to volunteer at the Northwest Special Recreation Association, where they assisted with programs supporting individuals with disabilities and at the Schaumburg Park District where they spent the day tidying up and enhancing local trails.

Others volunteered at Feed My Starving Children where they packaged meals given to children in need. In one day, NMI employees helped assemble 28 boxes, comprising 6,048 meals, keeping 16 children fed for a year.

Employees near our Glendale, CA office volunteered at the LA Regional Food Bank where they made 1,060 meal boxes for those in need and others spent the day tidying up the local recreational area with Venice Beach Clean-Up.

With a large presence of NMI employees in New York City, they all came together to volunteer with Citymeals on Wheels where they delivered meals to elderly recipients, many of whom are homebound and rely on the service as their primary source of food.

Employees based out of our Lindon, UT office volunteered with the Men’s Resource Center at The Road House where they served more than 150 meals to homeless men at the shelter and helped sort and organize donations over three days.

Those based out of our Bristol, UK office volunteered with the Bristol North West Food Bank where they assembled and wrapped Christmas presents for those in need. They also helped at The Brandon Trust at Elm Tree Farm, a community farm run by a charity supporting adults with learning disabilities, along with The Grand Appeal at the Bristol Hippodrome where volunteers collected donations after performances.

NMI’s remote employees that aren’t close to our office hubs also participated with organizations near them, including volunteering at the Sahuarita Food Bank assisting the community food bank, the Kids Food Basket where they helped prep and package 2,500 sack lunches and dinners for local children, along with United Way where they helped the homeless. Others volunteered with Translators Without Borders where they signed up to translate text and other documents for a cause, as well as assisting at a youth camp helping victims of Kentucky flooding.

The NMI Cares initiative is the next step in the evolution of NMI’s and its employee’s commitment to being active participants in the support and improvement of the communities in which we live. We look forward to continuing these efforts in order to give back and look forward to making an even greater impact in the future.
