NMI brings contactless payments to popular UK tourist attraction, Clifton Suspension Bridge

Bristol, UK / Roselle, IL, USA, January 30, 2019 - NMI, the unified commerce enablement company, is bringing the latest contactless payment technology to one of the UK’s top tourist attraction and toll bridge, The Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. The UK is the world’s leading contactless market, with the US expected to drastically increase contactless acceptance over the course of 2019. To date, the Clifton Suspension Bridge has more than four million vehicle crossings a year and is an intrinsic part of Bristol’s transportation infrastructure. Now, in addition to coins, users can pay via contactless enabled cards, phones and wearables.

“Adding new payment technology to an existing system, can be a complex process which requires many parties. We are delighted to have worked with NMI, a global payments leader based right at our doorstep, who coordinated the entire process and ensured we launched without any trouble or delays.”

Notes to the editor
NMI’s contactless solution helped raise £45,000 in donations for the Bristol Children’s Hospital during the 2018 Gromit Unleashed 2 arts trail in Bristol. Amongst others, NMI’s payments software powers parking at Cabot Circus and Bristol airport, Bristol Metrobus iPoints, a unique on-street information ticketing machine where passengers can buy tickets before boarding the bus.

The iconic toll bridge, which opened in 1864, was designed by one of the most ingenious and prolific figures in engineering history: Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
