Bristol, UK, September 23, 2019 — NMI, the unified commerce enablement company, has partnered with Flowbird to deliver the first PCI P2PE certified contactless ticketing solution, live on buses in the Edinburgh area since July.
Highly visible Contactless readers allow bus passengers to pay as they board, by tapping either their Visa and Mastercard credit/debit cards or their phone with Apple Pay or Google Pay.
The system is unique because unlike most other Contactless ticketing systems, the sensitive card information is guaranteed encrypted within the actual reader and is not decrypted until it is safely within the NMI secure payments environment. Furthermore, the Point-to-Point Encryption is independently assessed and certified by the PCI Security Standards Council. Every reader is rigorously tracked through manufacture, key injection, distribution, and installation. All aspects of the solution are designed to guarantee that no cardholder data ever touches the systems of the bus operator or the ticketing system in an unencrypted form.
The benefit for bus operators is that a certified PCI P2PE solution dramatically simplifies its obligations in respect of compliance with PCI DSS, in some cases to the extent that a full security audit is replaced by a self-assessment questionnaire.
